To respond to Our Lady's call
Once again, current events have prevented us from respecting the bi-weekly rhythm of these newsletters : Friday evening’s dramatic attacks remind us of the essential reason for our devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Indeed, shortly before World War Two, Our Lord and Our Lady asked Sister Lucia to intercede with the recently elected Pope Pius XII. She confided this to her confessor, Father Gonçalvès :
In another message, around March 1939, Our Lord told me: « Appeal, insist again, in order to make known the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays in honour of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. »
Then, on the 20th of June 1939, she specified to Father Aparicio, another of her confessors:
Our Lady has promised to postpone the scourge of war if this devotion [the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays of the month] was made known and practised. The extent to which She puts off this punishment depends on our effort to propagate this devotion.
What a wonderful promise ! At the time, the world was in fact on the brink of what was going to prove to be a terrible war. To avoid it, Our Lady simply asked that the devotion to her Immaculate Heart, and more particularly the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays of the month, be made known. Unfortunately, nothing was done and the world suffered several years of war. It was only after the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pius XII on the 31st of October 1942 that the course of the war changed.
Is the situation not similar today ? Is the world not on the threshold of serious disorder ? So then, if we want to avoid the impending chaos, it is time to respond to Our Lady’s appeal by making an effort to practise and diffuse the devotion to Her Immaculate Heart, a devotion which is God’s own will, as He revealed it to the little seers on the 13th of June and the 13th of July 1917.
Certainly, praying does not exempt us from continuing to act in concrete ways. Numerous are those who have been doing it for several months, often with a courage which commands our admiration. But for these efforts to be fruitful, it is necessary to combine them with prayer. Because it is also God’s will that we act according to two principles : one spiritual, the other temporal. This dualism (in the philosophic sense of the term) is apparent throughout almost all of Creation : essence and existence, matter and form, man and woman, body and soul, Church and State, ... ora et labora ! The success or the failure of everything we do depends on the union of these two elements.
Let’s have no doubt about it : after Friday’s events, from the temporal point of view, many operations will be proposed. From the spiritual, masses and prayer vigils have been or will be proferred. However, to ward off the scourge of war, God has asked for a particular prayer : the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Why this devotion rather than another ? That is God’s secret. However, He showed His will clearly by supporting its revelation through an exceptional miracle that He repeated four times, a few years later, especially for the Holy Father.
What then do we choose to do ? Do we decide for ourselves to do whatever suits us ; or do we respond, with humility, to this divine request ? If, just once, we decided to simply follow God’s will, if Catholics agreed to embrace with ardour the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the fate of the world could be changed. Our Lady promised it.
Let’s remind ourselves what this devotion entails (see also the files detailing these different points) :
- daily recitation of the Rosary,
- everyday sacrifices offered for the conversion of sinners,
- Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays of the month,
- consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
- wearing the scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the 8th of December
Since the 8th of November, approximately 400 people have engaged in an initiative to prepare for the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary planned for the 8th of December this year.
For those who would like to join this initiative, it is not too late. God Himself received with joy the labourers of the eleventh hour. It is therefore still possible, and even recommended, to consecrate oneself to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the 8th of December this year. Admittedly, a preparation of about one month is preferable, but it is not forbidden to do a shorter preparation, even if this means completing it during the course of a later renewal. For this, you can :
- join in the preparation of Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort which can be found on the website of Cap Fatima 2017,
- or, join in the preparation proposed by the diocese of Toulon, by registering on the website of Notre Dame de France. (The texts of the meditations will be sent to you every day by email.)
- register (on one or other of these websites) for a preparation of 9 days beginning on the 30th of November. (Details will be given in the next newsletter.)
The names of all those who register will be laid at the feet of Our Lady of France and Our Lady of Fatima at the beginning of 2016.
In union of prayer in the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
