The situation of our country is becoming, every day, more worrying and many see the future in a bad light. However, such a future is by no means inevitable. There exists a simple way of averting these unhappy prospects, Heaven having giving us the means to do so almost a hundred years ago, and with such means having already proved their worth.
In fact, after the sign in the sky on the night of the 26th to the 27th of January 1938, Sister Lucia understood that the war announced by Our Lady in Her message of the 13th of July 1917 was close. She informed the Bishop of Leiria, Monseigneur da Silva, of this several times. In particular, on the 6th of February 1939, that is, seven months before the official declaration of war, she wrote to him to announce the imminent war. And she added a major point : that Portugal would be spared because of the national consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary undertaken by its Bishops. In fact, on the 13th of May 1931 all the Portugese Bishops had consecrated Portugal to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, a consecration which they renewed on the 13th of May 1938.
Sister Lucia’s prediction came true down to the letter : not a single Portugese soldier took part in the hostilities and neither did any foreign army occupy Portugal, even for a short time. While the whole of Europe was subjected to five years of appalling war, only Portugal kept the peace.
After the war, several prelates acknowledged these facts. The Patriarch of Lisbon, Cardinal Cerejeira, spoke about this on the 30th of May 1948 at the Marial Congress of Madrid in front of 800,000 people :
I saw the letter seven months before the war, in which, this « horrible, horrible » war which covered the earth and the sea with blood, was announced as imminent, but in which it was promised that Portugal would be spared these horrors because of the consecration that her Bishops had made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (Ch. Barthas, Fatima, merveille du XXe siècle, p.343)
On the 13th of May 1956, the 25th anniversary of the consecration of Portugal, the Cardinal spoke about it again in front of 600,000 pilgrims who were at Fatima that day, including Monseigneur Roncalli, the future Pope Jean XXIII :
It is time to declare publicly, courtesy of this consecration, and without minimising the efforts of our governments which were instruments of Providence, that, in a world in flames, Portugal was able to keep the peace. Six to seven months before the date of the 1st of September 1939, the first day of the conflagration, the Bishop of Leiria sent me a letter from the seer, Sister Lucia, in which it was affirmed that the war predicted by Our Lady was on the point of breaking out, that God would wash the nations in their own blood (...), but that Portugal would be preserved from this war by the protection of the Holy Virgin. (Toute la vérité sur Fatima, t.IV, p.82)
Several years later, on the 11th of February 1967, during a press conference given at the Pontifical Academy of Mary, Cardinal Ottaviani, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, also spoke on the subject :
The imminence of this war, with its violence and its duration, was conveyed to the Bishop of Leiria seven months before it began. In fact, I had in my hand the letter of the 6th of February 1939 in which the seer said « the war predicted by Our Lady » was imminent (she had written eminent), and which promised the protection of Portugal by Our Lady, thanks to the consecration to Her Immaculate Heart made by the Portugese episcopate. (Documentation catholique du 19 mars 1967, col. 552)
Do we understand the full importance of these declarations by Cardinal Cerejeira and Cardinal Ottaviani ? Seven months before it happened, Sister Lucia predicted that all of Europe was going to suffer a terrible war, but that thanks to the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by her Bishops, Portugal would be spared. This consecration has, therefore, an extraordinary power. Now, what was true for Portugal could be true for France. Also, it could be affirmed that, and making no mistake about it :
If the French Bishops consecrated France
to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Our Lady would repel the threats hanging over our future.
To succeed in assembling all the French Bishops in order to consecrate France to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is certainly a difficult undertaking. But since the beginning of this month, with the brotherhood of Notre Dame de France, we have proposed that each one of us consecrate himself personally to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
At this moment, around 500 people have already put their names down, either for a consecration on the 8th of December, or for a consecration on the 25th of December. And between now and the 13th of October 2017, with the brotherhood of Notre Dame de France and La Neuvaine pour la France, we are going to propose about twenty other dates so that the largest number of people can respond to the request of our Heavenly Mother. (See the document Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.)
With God’s grace, these consecrations can lead to the consecration of our parishes. These can lead to the consecration of our dioceses, which, in turn, can lead to the consecration of France by all our Bishops, as France was consecrated to Our Lady on the 10th of February 1638 by Louis XIII.
We have a little less than two years to realise this project and to offer it to Our Lady for the centenary of the apparitions at Fatima. Therefore, we musn’t drag our feet. Starting today, we should commit to consecrating ourselves, or renewing our consecration, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and, as soon as possible, to set in motion the consecration, or its renewal, of our parish.
News from the project
For the last two weeks, the centenary site has experienced some problems (hackers ?) and has not always been accessible. We apologise for this and we ask you to inform us if you continue to experience difficulties.
An English version of the site is now available. Don’t hesitate to tell your English-speaking friends about it. To help our volunteers, who have begun translating the texts, we need two or three more volunteers to translate the equivalent of two A4 pages a month.
The first number of the bulletin, Fatima’s Children, has just appeared. It is still possible to take out a subscription for your children. See the prospectus at the end of this newsletter.
