This month finds us at the beginning of the Year of Mercy. Our thanks to the Holy Father for having had the glad idea to begin this particular year under the auspices of the Immaculate Conception ! On this occasion, about 800 of us consecrated ourselves, or renewed their consecration, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. What a wonderful day to consecrate ourselves to She who is without stain.
Henceforth, this gift that we have made of ourselves to Mary commits us to taking Her as our guide. However, is there something in particular that Our Lady asks of us for this Year of Mercy ? The answer is yes. In fact, on the 13th of July 1917, in the secret which she confided to the little seers she communicated two requests :
To prevent this [Our Lady speaks of the war and the persecutions of the Holy Father], I shall come to the world to ask that Russia be consecrated to my Immaculate Heart and for Communions of reparation on the first Saturdays of the month. If my wishes are fulfilled, Russia will be converted and there will be peace. If not, then Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, bringing wars and persecution of the Church.
So, Our Lady is asking for two things : consecration to her Immaculate Heart (in this case, by Russia, but this request can be applied in general) and Communions of reparation on the first Saturdays of the month. Moreover, she takes care to specify the consequences : if her two wishes are met, peace will come and those who are in error will convert. If this is not done, the opposite will happen : namely that these errors will spread throughout the world provoking wars and persecutions. Therefore, the choice whether or not to meet Our Lady’s demands is not an insignificant one. But what is important to note here is that the Holy Virgin has combined the two requests. She said clearly : « If MY wishes are fulfilled ». She did not say : « If one of my wishes is fulfilled » ! Therefore, if we want peace and the conversion of sinners, we should consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary AND make Communions of reparation on the first Saturday of the month. We have here a precious indication to guide us.
During the course of the coming year, the Holy Father asks us to be merciful towards our neighbour, as Christ is towards us. Now, is not praying for the conversion of sinners a good way of being merciful ? And the Holy Virgin tells us precisely how to do this : consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and make a Communion of reparation on the first Saturday of each month.
Therefore, it is necessary to be completely convinced of the power of this devotion. To illustrate this, here is the testimony of a woman from Quimaraes (in the north of Portugal), which appeared in the August 2001 bulletin of the Portugal Children’s Eucharistic Crusade. This woman tells how she had a brother who came home from Mozambique, who was a blasphemer and in revolt. He had abandonned his legitimate wife to live with another woman with whom he had two children. To obtain his conversion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, his sister undertook the devotion to the first five Saturdays of the month for him, and in place of him. And this is what happened :
At the beginning of August 1981, my brother was in a bad way. When he was asked if he wanted a priest, he blasphemed against priests. When his illness worsened, he was admitted to hospital in Braga. The other patients said that, day or night, he had not a moment’s rest and left no-one in peace. On the 18th of August 1981, to everyone’s amazement, he asked several times for a priest. Two priests came and gave him the last rites. They had just left when he inclined his head to the side and promptly died. It was without doubt the Immaculate Heart of Mary which saved my brother, who had been such a sinner. I didn’t want to look at him after he was dead, fearing that his face would be as distorted as it had been during his illness. But I wasn’t able to avoid approaching him during the Mass, which took place in the hospital’s chapel. He no longer seemed to be the same man ! He was very beautiful and smiling. It seemed as if his bitterness had been transformed into joy.
[Note : in Portugal, a funeral Mass always takes place with the coffin open, to enable the face of the deceased to be seen during the ceremony. This is a deep-rooted custom among the people, so much so, that a funeral Mass is commonly called the “Mass in presence of the body’’.]
Also, during the course of this Year of Mercy, in order to obtain the conversion of many sinners, we should be numerous, not only to convert ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (see HERE all the dates proposed for these consecrations) but also to practise the Communion of reparation (see the document on this subject) on each of the 11 following first Saturdays of the month. In this way we can diffuse the message of both the Holy Father and Our Lady at the same time.
Moreover, if we’re convinced of the beauty and the power of the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and in particular the consecration, we cannot keep such a treasure to ourselves : we should share it with those around us. This is a veritable obligation of charity. There is an easy way to do this : send a newsletter to one or two people. Perhaps those who receive it will be happy to have done so.
Have a happy and holy Year of Mercy. And Merry Christmas.
In union of prayer in the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

News from the project
Aware of our duty to make known the benefits of the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and after having contacted those who are already convinced, it is now indispensible to approach those who are less so, to go to the “edges”, as the Holy Father would say. Also we have, with the Brotherhood of Notre Dame de France, embarked on a distribution which is much larger than that of this newsletter. The problem is that sometimes this bothers certain recipients who criticise us for doing this. Ought we to do it ? It’s a delicate question, because we have to remain discreet. Moreover, Saint Paul did not hesitate to say : « I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ ( ... ), preach the word, be instant in season, out of season ; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine » (II Timothy IV, 1-2). This is why we have chosen to send this newsletter to the greatest number of non-subscribers (without, however, being intimidating !). If someone or another does not appreciate this approach, they should not see this as an infringement of their personal liberty, but rather a legitimate concern on our part to share a veritable treasure. If they don’t want it, all they have to do is unsubscribe by clicking on the link at the end of the letter. However, the many expressions of gratituude we have received justify this initiative.
The bulletin Fatima’s Children has been published since Sunday the 30th of November. There are currently 1,900 subscribers. And the subscriptions keep coming. You can still take out a subscription for your children. To do this, go to :
